[Chase lifts a hand to pluck one of the spiders from his hair, letting him see.]
Yeah. I usually have a few of these around. And I can make stuff fly around. I used to be able to do other stuff, but the Barge locked my power down pretty hard.
[He observes the spider for a moment, wondering if he'd be able to control it. Not because he wants to, of course, but because it's something he's usually wondering.]
[The spider promptly vanishes in a puff of smoke, then reappears on the back of Chase's hand instead, which he turns over to show Corvo. Chase's eyes go all over black when he does it.]
I make them. Or summon them, I guess. I can do flies too, but I like spiders better.
[An angry old man who shouldn't have been as old as he was. Chase decides he doesn't want to talk about that. (Not hard, he never wants to talk about that.)]
Four kids who had been raised together, like family, with books full of knowledge and parents who knew what they were.
[This is still not a pleasant subject. He sounds a little bitter about it.]
[Well. That's leaving out a lot of details. Chase hadn't gone in aiming to make friends at all. He has one goal, and that one goal doesn't require friends. The death was justly deserved, but he can't let it stop him yet.]
[Now that one's tricky. Chase has managed to not lie directly about anything since he came here, but then, nobody has really asked about why he's here, either. He's quiet a moment before he finally says,]
They didn't want to share.
[Which is true. Technically. Since Caleb sharing his power would mean his death, most likely, it's pretty understandable. Still, Chase is willing to bet they wouldn't have been willing to share anything else, either. They were dumb, asshole kids who'd never had to face a consequence in their lives.]
[Potential crisis averted. Chase still has no desire to really get into why he's here. And he also, for intensely stupid reasons, doesn't really want Corvo to look at him like those stupid kids did.]
Yeah, me, too. I don't hide what I am here, either. It's probably going to make things difficult when I get out of here, really, not being used to hiding anymore.

Re: After the breach
What does the spider have to do with your magic?
Re: After the breach
I make them. Or summon them, I guess. I can do flies too, but I like spiders better.
Re: After the breach
And that sort of magic isn't common?
Re: After the breach
[He lets the spider climb up his arm, dropping it now that he's not showing it off for Corvo.]
Re: After the breach
[He moves to the railing, keeping an eye on him, still smiling a bit at the spider.]

Re: After the breach
[He has every right to be bitter, Corvo decides.]
Did they welcome you?
Re: After the breach
Why do you think I'm here? One of them killed me.
[Well. That's leaving out a lot of details. Chase hadn't gone in aiming to make friends at all. He has one goal, and that one goal doesn't require friends. The death was justly deserved, but he can't let it stop him yet.]
Re: After the breach
He struggles to tamp down on it.]
Why would they do that?
Re: After the breach
They didn't want to share.

Re: After the breach
Well, magic here is different. I've seen lots of people who use it casually.
Re: After the breach
Yeah, me, too. I don't hide what I am here, either. It's probably going to make things difficult when I get out of here, really, not being used to hiding anymore.
[He shrugs.]
ut I'll deal with that when it happens.
Re: After the breach
[Corvo is adamant that he will go, but many others have different ideas.]
Re: After the breach
[It's the only reason he's even here and trying, in a very small way, to maybe get out someday.]
You?
Re: After the breach
[He shakes his head.]
The Admiral is a fool.
Re: After the breach
[A pause.]
I mean, unless you're a warden, but then you could just go do the thing or use a wish for it or something so I don't think you'd be complaining.
Re: After the breach
No. Not a warden.
But I'm not so easily bested, either. If the Admiral hadn't interfered, the Outsider might have.
Re: After the breach
[Technically somebody else did, whoever sent stupid Caleb that lightning bolt of power. Wrong side, though.]
What's the Outsider?
Re: After the breach
Re: After the breach
And you think he would've rescued you, huh?
Re: After the breach
[Corvo knows where he stands.]
Re: After the breach
Do you like being a god's plaything?
Re: After the breach
No, but what am I supposed to do?
Re: After the breach
[Easier said than done, he knows. He snorts a little.]
I think I'm glad we don't have any of those where I come from. That's the last thing I need.
