[There is a system, messy though it is, but Chase is resigned to the idea of redoing it. It probably needed redoing, anyhow.]
Well, the duplication one was thinking maybe it could help the food situation somehow. The magical dimension pocket was just because I met a guy who could do that and I wanted to figure it out.
[Chase shuffles through his notes until he finds the most pertinent page.]
The big problem is the creation of mass. I can make mass go away, but only temporarily, so I might be able to modify the shape of the power that I use to return from that state. But even then it might not be applicable to new mass. I'm going to have to experiment.
[Then, because literally everyone has told him to be careful, he adds,]
How specific a problem is that? If we put together, say, the contents of that gambling parlor that never sees any use, can you convert that assortment of metals and whatever plastic is exactly into something edible?
That's got even less of a parallel to something I can already do, but-- actually, I might be able to incorporate it. Like my summoning, right?
[He shuffles some notes aside to reveal a spider, and scoops it up on one finger.]
So I summon these. They're imps, technically very small demons. They're only in this shape because that's the shape I chose. I could do flies, too, but spiders are easier.
[And he likes them more.]
Maybe I could kind of. Summon matter into a different kind of matter.
[He doesn't sound too annoyed by the joke, though, that's something.]
No, if I can combine it somehow with my reconstitution, then I won't need to worry about the imps. More like, like you said, some kind of transference.
[He shuffles through the books on the table until he finds the one he's looking for and start flipping through it.]
[Chase flaps a hand a little, waving the concern off.]
They're just spell vessels, mostly. Like tiny familiars. Or magic envelopes that move around on their own.
[He flips another page, starts running a finger down the page.]
They're not really related to any of this at all, I was just using the example of how they work as a possible connection to this. Here, look at this. It's a passage on transmutation. It probably wouldn't work like this, my magic is different, but it'd be a good basis.
[Don't worry, he understands what "a long time" means. Even if he does know it means probably something a little different to someone expecting to die of old age by 40, if not by 20.
He considers Adrian curiously.]
What did your magic focus on? Besides flying down stairwells.

[Adrian helps himself to the topmost page from the pocket stack, not feeling he's disrupting any system here.]

Not until I'm sure it won't blow up. Promise.

[He's only mostly joking. He knows magic.]

[Fortunately Chase is the same age as he is and probably has the same standards for wearily saying a long time and looking distant.]

But your magic can do other things. Nobody just trains up killing spells for the hell of it.
