He's just doing it to bother me, so I doubt that would help much.

I'm doing research in the library. I don't think I'm ever going to run out of books in there, it's crazy.

Right now, duplication spells.

[He pauses, then adds,]

Witch?

Well then, I'm something of a mage just so you know. Although I've nary dealt with magic like duplication.

Neither have I, that's kind of the problem. I tried putting something together this week, but it flopped. So I'm trying to figure out if there's some kind of workaround.

You're teaching yourself?

Of course. That's what I've always done.

Perhaps you'd like some company in your endevours?

The library's free for everybody. If you feel like coming down some afternoon while I'm in there working, I'm not going to tell you no.

[That's the closest to a "sure" she's going to get, but it's probably close enough.]

Very well. Then I shall see you during one of your shifts, and perhaps I can distract you from your duties with the promise of some magical studies.

Oh, I don't work there. When I say "working" I just mean working on my spell research.

I dare say that studying magic again will be like reliving a day at the Studium. It should be fun.

Studium.

It is an educational institution for the Arcane Arts. I attended there some years ago, although it seems a lifetime ago now.

You guys have schools for magic?

[He shouldn't be jealous. He probably wouldn't be welcome, anyway, given how easily his magic turns to death. But it would have been so much better if he'd at least known what the hell his magic was, earlier on!]

Of course. Magic is commonplace enough that it would be foolhardy if it wasn't taught.

...Does that mean you didn't have such schools?

No. I had to hide my magic or I'd wind up imprisoned and experimented on. Or I guess they're try to imprison me and experiment on me.

There are four people in the whole world who know I have magic.

[And he tried to kill them. Fun times!]

Not all in our world look kindly upon magic. There are those who fear it, or worse, openly condemn it.

I can not say that I understand how you feel - I have never experienced such - but I can tell you that you are not alone. And that it is terrible that you would need to hide such skill. Truly.
